Cistercian kicked off to start the game and the complete
first half was played in a steady rain. Touchback and we start on the 25. QB
John Webb hits Danny Koudelka for a 5 yard pass and then Justin Jones nice run for
12 yards and first down on SM 42. Jones with run for 5 yards and then Webb hits
Reid Thompson for 6 yards for first down. After 5 yard penalty on STM, Webb
hits Thompson again for 15 yards to Cistercian 37 yard line. After two short gains, Webb hits Kendrick
Spraglin for 13 yards and first down on CS 21 yard line. On second down from
the 18 yard line, Webb and Spraglin hit on a pump and go and Webb puts it in
the corner before the safety can come over and Spraglin helps the DB find his
athletic supporter!!. TOUCHDOWN. 11
play drive & Webb was 6 for 7 on
this drive with a soaking wet ball. Great play calling by Coach Epp. QB wasn’t touched, great job by those
offensive lineman.

Cistercian 0.
It was now time for the defense to meet and greet # 25 Dare
Odeyingbo, a big, strong 215 to 225 lb running back.
Cistercian takes over on their own 29 yard line after a
short kickoff. On first down Bear Goldstein and Luke Williams hit him hard for
a 4 yard gain. On second down Jimmy Papin in great position on a quick pass to
the tight end & incomplete. On third down Kellum Hall with first hit & Williams
and Mac Labhart combine for a hit on #25 and its 4th and 2 &
they are punting. Three and out-great
defensive start.
STM starts at their own 20 after punt.
Jones for nine on first down run and on third down Webb
rolling left hits Spraglin for 15 yards and first down on STM 43. St Marks hit
for two procedure penalties and its first and 20. First down Webb to Spraglin
for 13 yards, Webb to Thompson on down & out for 8 yards and first down on
Cist. 46. On first down John Caldwell runs a nice pattern with an inside fake
and then goes long down the sideline and Webb with a perfect pass and 42 yards
later its first down on Cist four yard line. We have two runs, two penalties
and three incomplete passes and we turn the ball over at the CIST. 15 yard
line.
Cistercian first down on their own 15. First down is a
muffed snap, 2nd down George Law, Goldstein and Williams bring down
QB after an 8 yard run and the # 25 just gets a first down on third & two.
Good hit and pass breakup by Chris Roach on first down; the big guy gets 15
yards on two carries and on first down, a real good pass & catch by their
tight end gives Cist. a first down on the SM 32 yard line. Number 25 goes
for 17 yards on three carries and then
Cist. hits a 39 yard pass to St Marks four yard line. That is the end of the
first quarter.
St Marks 6 Cistercian
0.
On the first play of the second quarter, Dare Odeyingbo
bulls over from four yards out for a touchdown. The PAT is good and its 7-6
Cistercian.
Koudelka returns short kickoff to the 28 yard line. Webb
hits Thompson for 8 yards and then finds a wide open Caldwell for a 19 yard
pass on a sliding catch to the Cist. 44. Jones with 8 yard run between two nice
blocks of Victor Calvillo and Cole Labhart and its first down on the Cist. 35
yard line. On first down Webb roles right and hits Caldwell down the sideline,
Caldwell was pushed out of bounds, the safety actually touches the ball and a
sliding Caldwell comes back into play and falling backwards catches the ball at
the one yard line. Good effort! Jones
takes a handoff and is hit in the backfield but drags the defender into the end
zone. TOUCHDOWN. 5 play 66 yard drive.
Webb 3 for 3 and again wasn’t touched on the drive. St Marks goes for two and
Webb hits Caldwell on a well-timed down and out for the conversion.
St Marks 14 Cistercian 7.
We kickoff and good tackle by Stephen Rambin and C. Labhart.
And Cistercian starts at their own 37.
Great defense on first down as Otto Martinek stuffs his
blocker and both K.Hall and Jimmy Papin on run blitzes throw the big guy for a
two yard loss. Second down incomplete pass on close coverage by Chris Roach. On
third down pass to the middle of the field is dropped by tight end as Goldstein,
Williams and Papin were ready to blow him up. FOOTSTEPS!!! THREE AND OUT-great.
51 yard punt and we take over on Cist. 15 yard line. On
first down Webb hits Spraglin for a 22 yard pass and he makes a good catch as
he comes back for the ball. Webb to Koudelka with a short pass and then Jones
hits big hole as Center Michael Doorey blocks his man to the inside and RG
Tommy Gudmundsson and RT Dominic Garcia take their men to the outside. Its
fourth and one and Cistercian stops us and they takeover on SM 45 yard line.
Three runs by their #25 gives them 22 yards. Good hits by
Goldstein, Martinek, Papin and M.Labhart but this guy is a load. We then hold
them, real nice play by M. Labhart throwing the big guy for 2 yard loss,, a
short run and an incomplete pass and on fourth down and 8 from our 28 yard
line, their QB in a well-designed play rolls to his right and throws back to
#25 and he runs untouched down the sideline for a TD. PAT is good and we are tied 14-14 with 5 minutes left in first half.
Koudelka returns kickoff 22 yards to SM 30 yard line. First
down nice completion Webb to Caldwell for 32 yards and first down. Jones goes
for 13 on the left side, good blocks C. Labhart and Calvillo. We then misfire
on three straight passes, one was a drop and receivers are slipping as it is
still raining.
Fourth and 10 at Cist 26 yard line. Webb hits Koudelka with
a short pass over the middle; he makes one defender miss and then puts his head
down and plows into a DB and gets a key 11 yard pickup and first down. Two incomplete passes and on third and ten
from the 15- Webb to Caldwell on a short slant pattern and Caldwell shakes off
two defenders and strolls into the end zone. TOUCHDOWN. Another drive and Webb
is not touched.
Jacob Wilner is good on PAT.
St Marks 21- Cist 14.
On short kickoff after a 5 yard penalty Cistercian returns
it to their 49 yard line. Short run with good tackle by Goldstein and then QB
rolls right and finds a running back all alone in the middle of the field for
20 yards and its first down on to the STM 29 yard line and good tackle by
Thompson. On first down Williams streaks in and really delivers a shot to the
big guy and he goes down for no gain- may be the best hit of the night. Two
more short runs gain 9 and its fourth and one at our 20 yard line and #25 goes
right up the middle and drags some tacklers and shakes loose and scores. PAT is
good and with less than two minutes left in half it is:
ST Marks 21 Cistercian 21.
Koudelka another 20 yard return on kickoff and first down on
our own 30. Jones with 8 yard run, two incomplete passes, and one was dropped
and we punt for the first time. Cist
takes over on their 46, good stops by Martinek & Roach on two running
plays, Law and Goldstein with stop on
the big guy, on 2nd & 4 from our own 29, QB hits short pass in
the left flat, a hustling K. Hall comes over from right side of our defense and
puts a good shot on receiver and causes fumble that Goldstein recovers. Good
play!. We take a knee and its 21-21 halftime.
Just like the Mart game, our defense will stiffen and
Cistercian will not score again.
THIRD QUARTER
After Kickoff, Cistercian starts at their own 33 yard line.
On the first play from scrimmage, Stephen Rambin fights off his blocker and
makes real nice hit on big old # 25 for a four yard loss and the defensive tone
is set!! On second down completed short
pass and Lendon Hall with nice tackle and on third down Papin blitzes right up
the middle and causes QB to release ball earlier than desired and it’s
incomplete and L. Hall in coverage and it’s an IMPORTANT THREE AND OUT!!! Cistercian punts and we start at our own 7
yard line. We get two first downs on Webb to Caldwell pass for 13 yards and a
nice run by Jones for 28 yards. But a penalty, short pass to Koudelka and a low
snap and we have to kick from midfield. Cistercian starts at their own 38 yard
line, three runs by #25 gives them 26 yards and two first downs. He was getting
hit, real good gang tackling on every one of his carries. Goldstein, Roach, M.
Labhart, Papin, Williams and Rambin all with shots on the runner. First down at
our 33 yard line, incomplete pass, good coverage on 2nd down by
Thompson and QB runs and is tackled by K. Hall, third down incomplete pass and
on fourth and 10 Law beats his blocker and throws the QB to the ground for a
sack and four yard loss.
We take over at our own 38 yard line. First down Doorey and
C. Labhart open big hole and T. Gudmundsson comes over and gets LB and Jones goes
for 14. Looks like the exact same play and another nine yard gain for Jones.
Jones for 3 as Garcia manhandles the DT. First down at Cist. 36.
Webb hits Spraglin for 18 yards and first down. On third
down Webb short pass to Jones, good block by Calvillo on def end, real nice
block by Spraglin downfield and Jones scores as he runs over a defender at the
2 yard line.Wilner PAT is good.
St Marks 28 Cist 21.
Gang tackle on kickoff by Martinek, Rambin and C. Labhart. On first down Williams and
Martinek hold #25 for no gain. Second down incomplete pass. On third down all-out
blitz by Papin, M. Labhart and K. Hall and M. Labhart ends up with the sack and
a seven yard loss. And another great defensive series.
Short punt to Koudelka and makes a nice 13 yard return to
the CIST49 yard line. Two runs gain little and Webb then hits Thompson with two
passes for 8 yards and then 7 yards and Thompson runs over a defender. On third
and one from Cistercian 29 yard line, Jones goes through hole created by
Doorey, T. Gudmundsson and Garcia and then he runs over one defender and races
to end zone for TOUCHDOWN.
Wilner good on PAT and its St Marks 34-Cistercian 21 with
one minute left in third quarter.
Cistercian with a good kickoff return and with a St Marks
penalty and they are starting at their own 49 yard line. Two runs by #25 give them12 yards, first down
and end of third quarter. STM is gang tackling him on every play, 4, 5, 6 guys
are pounding on him.
FOURTH QUARTER
First and ten from SM 39 yard line, good QB pressure by
Martinek and real nice coverage by Roach incomplete pass. Papin & K. Hall
combine for two yard loss on OTHER RB, Good coverage by L. Hall on long pass on
third down. On fourth down STM gets a questionable penalty that gives CIST a
first down. First down at SM 32, Law good QB pressure and throws incomplete, 2nd
down Cameron Baxley, Goldstein, K. Hall and Martinek hold the big guy to a 4
yard gain. Third and six and big rush by Law who throws QB to ground for 10
yard loss. Nice job! Fourth and 21 and
QB throws deep but receiver is covered by Goldstein and Roach. St Marks ball.
One run and two incomplete passes and we are punting. Low
snap and short punt and Cistercian starts at the SM 48. First down QB goes for
the bomb and real nice pass deflection by Williams. Goldstein and M. Labhart
combine for a stop on the big guy. Short incomplete pass and Papin puts a shot
on the receiver. St Marks with a penalty. Nice play on 2nd down as
K. Hall and Martinek fight off blockers to hold #25 to a 2 yard gain. Third
down good coverage and hit by Goldstein and incomplete pass; and on fourth and
eight, short pass complete and a hustling Papin knocks receiver out of bounds
after seven years and its first down STM, at SM 25 yard line.
On second down Webb to Koudelka for 11 yards and first down,
after a short run, its 2nd and seven on the SM 39 yard line, Webb
under pressure throws a strike to Caldwell and he runs the last 30 yards into
the end zone. Webb was also the victim of a roughing the passer hit. TOUCHDOWN.

With 4 minutes left in game
STM 41-Cist 21.
Big kick off by Wilner into endzone. Cistercian drove with
short passes and they completed five passes for three first downs but there was
always a solid tackle and not many yards after the catch. Tackles by Papin,
Goldstein, Williams and Roach. With the help of a 15 yard penalty against STM,
Cist has first down on SM 25 yard line.
First down short pass but then a penalty on Cist. 2nd down and a
nine yard run, third down blitzing Papin throws the big guy for two yard loss
with an assist from Martinek. Fourth
down and 6 from the SM 21 yard line, QB rolls left and throws a nice pass to a
receiver in the end zone and L. Hall makes a real nice play to bat the ball
away at the last instant and its STM ball.
We then go into the take a knee victory formation for two
plays.
FINAL SCORE ST. MARKS 41 - Cistercian 21.
NOTES: We had 562
yards of total offense. John Webb was 26 for 41 for 413 yards and 4 touchdowns
with a heavy and wet ball. WELL DONE. Justin Jones 24 carries for 168 yards and two rushing TD's; I’ll take a 7 yards per carry average any day. Jones also caught one pass for a
17 yard TD. John Caldwell 7 catches for 216 yards and 2 Td’s, that’s
almost 31 yards per catch- good stuff. Kendrick Spraglin 6 catches for 99 yards
and a TD. Reid Thompson and Danny
Koudelka each had six receptions. Good job by Michael Doorey on the shotgun
snaps with a wet ball. Great job by the offensive line, I think QB Webb was hit
on three passes. Michael Vick would love to have that stat. Cistercian QB completed only 45% of his
passes. The big guy #25 Odeyingbo ran the ball 28 times for a tough 143 yards.
I watched him on several plays and if he wasn’t running the ball, he was a
statue, he was resting!! We pounded him
and I think he slept well with visions of Papin, M. Labhart, Goldstein, K. Hall
and others dancing in his head. Just
like Mart, Cistercian had no points and only six first downs in the second half
as the defense really stepped it up in the second half.
This Friday may be our toughest test of the season at FW All
Saints.
